BIO
"I only listened to AM radio as a child, my parents listened seemingly exclusively to talk radio. Because I only got one radio station on my AM radio, I grew up with Imus in the morning and Howard Stern in the afternoons." Janelle says that she didn't become really exposed to music until the early 80's when Mtv hit the scene. "I was thrust into not only an audio, but now a visual world of music, and I was mesmerized." It was about this time that she decided she really wanted to pursue music.
Right out of high school she joined an original band that toured around the New England area. Janelle refused to be the cliche female vocalist, so when it came time to cover other artists' music, she chose songs with male leads, including bands like Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rush and Jimmy Hendrix. The band, known by many names, including "Truth", "Euphoria", and finally "Karma", despite their popularity, hard work, and originality, finally disbanded in the early 90's and went their separate ways.
Janelle relocated to the Florida Keys and shortly thereafter joined the group the "Prime Movers". The band was a groovy blend of rock n' roll, blues n' soul, calypso n' disco, punk n' funk. In an area where sequenced duos and singles accompanied by midi files were the norm, the "Prime Movers" were one of the only true live bands left in the Keys. All five members of the band hailed from extensive musical and performance oriented backgrounds. Starting off at local venues on Big Pine Key, the band quickly took Key West by storm playing virtually every club from Miami to Key West and established themselves as a local favorite. Janelle's powerful and unique singing style lent itself ideally to the band's distinct sound.
After signing with indi-label, "Cracked Conch Records", Janelle relocated to Miami where she continued to play the local circuit with "Justa Head," a popular Fort Lauderdale based band, which allowed her to honor her record contract, network and ultimately work with various studios and other musicians, including Jimmy Buffet's band, Clarence Clemmons, Robbie Gennet, James Schuld, (formerly of Lillian Axe and Scott Stapp's solo ventures), and Sonny Russell. She enjoyed a long time collaboration with Jeronimo Terife of Centaurus Media Group, during which time she penned many songs for her own projects, as well as various other artists, provided lead and backing vocals and commercial voiceover tracks.
After Janelle's twin brother, Jamie, relocated to Miami, they quickly formed the original band "DIAD". The band was a melodic blend of styles with old school rock n' roll influences. All five members of the band contributed a wide range of musical styles, backgrounds and influences. Because each musician had been involved in various other projects, they all brought their own unique style and grace to the band. In the ever-changing musical industry, this unrivaled group of musical talent was dynamic and universal in their style and approach to the creation of their own music in an effort to appeal to all.
"Diad" came together with one common goal: to create a sound driven by emotion. Their music was fueled by energy, seduction, creativity and thought provoking vocals. Guitarists Jamie and Chris tastefully blended catchy hook-driven riffs with Janelle's conflicting lyrics of self-reflection delivered in a display of unapologetic self-expression. The music was a groovy blend of high-energy guitar riffs, accompanied by Vincent's hard-driving bass lines, and Adam's powerful beats. Individually the members of this band were incredible, together they were unparalleled.
Janelle delivers captivating and emotional performances with her electric on-stage presence. Although having been compared to legends, she has proven to be a talented vocalist in her own right. She is currently in Los Angeles working as a session vocalist, collaborating with various musicians, performing her own solo musical showcases, and providing backup vocals for various Los Angeles bands.
